The Crystal Quest Whole House Reverse Osmosis System purifies every tap in the home, not just the kitchen sink. A commercial-grade RO unit removes up to 99% of dissolved contaminants (including arsenic, fluoride, nitrates, sodium, PFAS and high TDS that filters and softeners can't touch), fills an atmospheric storage tank, and a repressurization pump delivers the water to the house on demand.

How a whole house reverse osmosis system works

Point-of-use RO units make a few gallons a day under the sink. A whole house system makes hundreds or thousands of gallons a day, so it needs three parts working together:

• The RO unit pushes pre-filtered water through membranes that reject dissolved solids. Recovery is 33–50%, so a portion goes to drain as concentrate.
• The atmospheric storage tank (165, 220 or 550 gallons) holds the purified water. RO production is slow and steady; the tank is what lets you run a shower and a washing machine at once.
• The repressurization pump and float switches deliver tank water to the house at normal pressure and tell the RO unit when to cycle on and off.

The Standalone option is the RO unit with pre-filtration and membranes only. The Add Storage Tank Kit options add the tank, pump and float switches.

Which size do I need?

Size by gallons per day (GPD) of purified water your household uses, with headroom for laundry and irrigation. A typical family of four uses 250–400 gallons a day at all fixtures; a well pump's flow rate also has to meet the minimum feed for the unit you pick.

Do I need the remineralizer?

RO strips minerals along with contaminants, which leaves water slightly acidic and flat-tasting and can be aggressive to copper plumbing over time. A remineralizer after the tank adds calcium and magnesium back and raises pH. It's optional for taste, recommended for whole-house use. Size it to your system: 300–2,500 GPD uses the single Big Blue alkalizer/remineralizer; 4,000–5,000 GPD the 1.5 cu ft remineralizer system; 7,000 GPD the 2.0 cu ft version (call to order).

Maintenance and replacement filters

Change the sediment pre-filter roughly every 6 months (sooner on turbid well water) and the RO membranes every 2–3 years depending on feed water. Replacement pre-filter cartridges and RO membranes for every size are in our replacement parts collection, or call us with your system size and we'll pull the right ones.
