Under sink reverse osmosis systems for drinking and cooking water: Waterdrop tankless RO systems that make 400–800 gallons a day with no storage tank, and Pentair FreshPoint tank-style systems that need no power. Authorized dealer pricing, free shipping, 120-day returns, no sales tax outside Minnesota. Tankless or tank? Which Waterdrop? The comparison is below the products.
Every system on this page installs in the cabinet under the kitchen sink, feeds a dedicated faucet (and a fridge or ice-maker line if you want it), and sends a little water to the drain as it purifies. The difference is how the purified water is delivered. A tank-style RO makes about 75 gallons a day slowly and stores it in a pressurized tank, so you get a fast pour until the tank empties, then wait. A tankless RO uses a booster pump and larger membrane to make 400–800 gallons a day on demand, straight to the faucet, with no tank taking up cabinet space.
| Tankless RO (Waterdrop G3 series) | Tank RO (Pentair FreshPoint) | |
|---|---|---|
| Output | 400, 600 or 800 GPD; fills a glass in seconds, never runs out | 75 GPD into a 3–4 gal tank; slows when the tank is drawn down |
| Cabinet space | One slim unit, about the size of a shoebox on end | Filter manifold plus a tank the size of a basketball |
| Water to drain | 1:1 to 3:1 pure-to-drain, depending on model | Roughly 1:3 to 1:4 pure-to-drain |
| Power | Needs an outlet under the sink | None; runs on line pressure (40 psi minimum) |
| Extras | Smart faucet shows TDS and filter life; G3P800 adds UV on the outlet | Simple; GRO-475M has a filter-change monitor faucet |
| Filter changes | Twist-out cartridges, no tools; 6, 12 and 24-month intervals | Twist-in cartridges; 6-month pre-filters, 2-year membrane |
| Price | $539–$849 | $730–$1,005 |
| Choose it if | You want fast, unlimited RO water, less waste, and have an outlet | You want no electronics, or have no power under the sink |
Waterdrop's G3 line is the tankless standard and the three models differ in output, drain ratio and one feature. The G3P600 is the one most households should start with; the G3P800 adds a UVC-LED sterilizer on the outlet for well water or anyone who wants the last-stage insurance; the G3 is the entry point.
| Model | Output | Pure : drain | Filter stages | Standout | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Waterdrop G3P800 | 800 GPD | 3:1 | 9 | UVC-LED sterilizer, best drain ratio, fastest fill | $849 |
| Waterdrop G3P600 | 600 GPD | 2:1 | 8 | NSF/ANSI 58 and 372 certified; best value in the line | $539 |
| Waterdrop G3 | 400 GPD | 1:1 | 7 | NSF/ANSI 58 and 372 certified; the original tankless G3 | $579 |
Replacement cartridges for all three are in Waterdrop replacement filters; the G3 membrane is listed on this page.
| Model | Stages | Faucet | Best for | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GRO-575B | 5, with a second carbon polishing stage | Air-gap faucet | Chlorinated city water with taste or odor; plumbing codes that require an air gap | $1,004.99 |
| GRO-475M | 4 | Filter-change monitor faucet | Knowing when to change filters without guessing | $790.99 |
| GRO-475B | 4 | Standard | Lowest-priced Pentair; the straightforward tank system | $729.99 |
All three use the GRO75-RC membrane and FreshPoint cartridges; see Pentair for the full set.
Installation is a 1–2 hour DIY job with the included fittings; no plumber needed unless you're adding a fridge line through cabinetry.
Is a tankless RO system better than a tank system? For most kitchens, yes: faster water, far less to drain, and the cabinet back. The tank system wins on simplicity and on not needing power. Both remove the same contaminants.
What's the best under sink reverse osmosis system? On this page, the Waterdrop G3P600 for value and certification, the G3P800 if you want UV and the best drain ratio, the Pentair GRO-475B if you want a tank system with no electronics.
How much water does an under sink RO waste? Tank systems send about 3–4 gallons to drain per gallon purified. The Waterdrop tankless units run 1:1 (G3), 2:1 (G3P600) or 3:1 (G3P800) pure-to-drain, so a G3P800 wastes roughly a tenth of what a tank system does.
Do I need remineralization? RO water is low in minerals and tastes flat to some people. An inline remineralization or alkaline cartridge after the membrane adds calcium and magnesium back; it's a taste preference, not a health requirement.
How often do filters need changing? Pre-filters every 6–12 months, carbon every 12 months, membrane every 24 months, depending on water quality and use. The Waterdrop faucet and the Pentair monitor faucet both tell you when.
