Clack water softeners from an authorized dealer, built for plumbers, well contractors and water treatment professionals: the WS1 for most residential installs, the WS 1.25 for larger homes and 1″ plumbing, twin-tank systems for 24/7 soft water, and WS 1.5 and WS2 commercial units, from $1,319 with a 5-year valve and 10-year tank warranty. Every system ships assembled with the valve programmed and resin loaded, nationwide. Dealer pricing, sizing and which model fits the job are below the products.
Clack makes the control valve; we build the softener around it with a mineral tank, brine tank, resin and bypass, and program the valve to the site's hardness before it ships. What you're specifying is the valve size (which sets flow rate) and the grain capacity (which sets how much hardness it removes between regenerations). The models below cover a one-bathroom residence to a 300,000-grain commercial system. Trade pricing applies on volume and repeat orders; request a quote for multi-unit jobs.

Grains per day = hardness in grains per gallon × people × about 75 gallons. Add 4–5 gpg for every 1 ppm of iron. Choose the capacity that lets the softener regenerate roughly once a week: that's the point where salt efficiency and resin life are both good. As a rule of thumb on 10–15 gpg city water:
| Household | Capacity | Tank |
|---|---|---|
| 1–2 people, 1 bath | 32,000 grains | 9″ × 48″ |
| 2–3 people, 1–2 baths | 40,000 grains | 10″ × 44″ |
| 3–4 people, 2–3 baths | 48,000 grains | 10″ × 54″ |
| 4–6 people, 3–4 baths | 64,000 grains | 12″ × 48″ |
| 6+ people, or hardness over 20 gpg | 80,000–120,000 grains | 13″ × 54″ to 16″ × 65″ |
Well water with iron over 3 ppm, manganese or a sulfur smell needs an iron filter ahead of the softener; see water softeners for well water. Send us the site's water test and pump specs and we'll size the train: request a quote or call 800-374-2143.
Both are dealer-grade valves we sell and stand behind; Clack's edge is programming simplicity, the EZsalt option and flow at the same price point, Fleck's is a longer track record and slightly lower entry pricing. Read Clack vs Fleck for the full comparison, or see Fleck water softeners.
How much does a Clack water softener cost? $1,319 to $2,199 list for the residential systems on this page depending on capacity and whether carbon filtration is paired; commercial WS 1.5 and WS2 systems from $3,999. Trade pricing is available on volume and repeat orders.
Where can I buy a Clack water softener? Clack sells only through authorized water treatment dealers. Aqua Home Supply is an authorized dealer supplying plumbers, well contractors, facilities teams and other water treatment professionals, with assembled systems shipped nationwide and genuine Clack parts in stock.
Is the Clack WS1 a good water softener? It's the most widely installed residential valve among independent dealers in the US, with a 5-year valve warranty and parts available everywhere. Read the WS1 reviews from our customers.
What's included? Valve, mineral tank loaded with resin, brine tank with safety float, bypass, drain fittings and the Clack WS1 manual. Connections to the main line and drain are made on site.
Salt-free option? If you want scale control without salt on city water, see salt-free systems; they don't remove hardness, so they're not a like-for-like swap.
